Event Description

As Walk-In clinics and Single Session consultations grow in popularity for people seeking quick access to mental health supports, Walk-In and Single Session clinicians must be learn to maximize the time that they have to effectively work with clients. Often times, visitors to walk-in mental health clinics or Single Sessions have very significant challenges and present with complex and high-risk issues including, but not limited to, trauma, abuse, suicidal thoughts, self-harm and grief. While there is a significant body of research that supports the effectiveness of both single session and brief therapy many clinicians continue to struggle with how to remain effective when faced with complex clinical situations.

Emphasis will be placed on nurturing resilience, coping and optimism about the future as well as developing sensitive and realistic goals with clients. The role of empathy, compassion and wisdom in the therapeutic process and how this relates to complex clinical situations will be explored. This hands-on workshop will draw upon the theoretical foundations of Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Mindfulness theories and offer many opportunities to practice newly learned skills.
