Wojtowicz, Amy - Psychologist, Ph.D., C.Psych.
Patterson Psychotherapy
Private practice (individual)
I am a clinical psychologist, located in Burlington Ontario, with a specialization in maternal mental health. I have a special interest in working with pregnant and postpartum women who are struggling with depression, anxiety, or trauma-related disorders. Utilizing best practice approaches, I also provide support, compassion, and encouragement for women experiencing infertility, pregnancy loss, and birth and reproductive trauma. If you are a mom, or interested in becoming a mom, and you are struggling with feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, guilty, or burnt out, there are treatments available that can help.

The journey of motherhood often comes with unexpected challenges, uncertainty, vulnerability, shifts in identity, feelings of inadequacy, and other worrisome emotions. When our parenting journey does not meet our expectations, we can sometimes be left feeling depressed, overwhelmed, hopeless, fearful, and ashamed. My goal is to provide a space in which women feel safe to fully express their pain without judgment. Utilizing empirically supported techniques, I help clients reengage in their life, clarify their values, modify unhelpful thinking patterns, cope with intense emotions, communicate more effectively, enhance problem solving skills, and achieve greater acceptance. I am passionate about helping women increase self-awareness, enhance self-compassion, and rediscover their innate wisdom and capacity for growth and healing. I strongly believe that asking for help is a sign of courage and strength. I look forward to connecting with you.

Qualifications and Training

I am registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and I received my Ph.D. from the University of Calgary. Before shifting my focus to private practice, I was previously a staff psychologist at St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton. I previously held an academic position in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University. I am also passionate about clinical training and supervision and have provided clinical supervision for psychology practicum students and residents, psychiatry residents, and other mental health professionals.

I have extensive training in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, mindfulness, and compassion-based interventions. I am also a certified Daring Way™ Facilitator, an evidenced-based curriculum developed by Dr. Brené Brown that focuses on courage building, shame resilence, reducing people pleasing, setting healthy boundaries, and uncovering the power of vulnerability.
