Event Description

Julie Keon’s daughter, Meredith, was born with severe and irreparable brain damage. Originally told that her child may never see her seventh birthday, Julie and her husband Tim, have steadfastly continued their journey in raising their medically fragile child.

One day, after an encounter with a young mother in a similar situation, Julie began writing a blog, giving hope to parents around the globe who face similar challenges and may at times feel alone and isolated.

In her book, Julie shares her deepest insights – the fears, grief, and even unwillingness at times to face her situation. She explains how she worked through these challenges and how she has not only survived, but how she has learned to thrive and find deeper meaning and joy in life as a result. Julie tells you what she believes are the essentials for parents of special needs children, as well as how to keep a marriage healthy, how to deal with difficult emotions, and how to find joy in everyday life again.

“This is a life-changing and life-affirming book for all parents of complex children as well as those who love and support them.”
— Donna Thomson, mother of adult son with special needs and author of The Four Walls of My Freedom: Lessons I’ve Learned from a Life of Caregiving.

“This book should be on the bookshelf of every neonatal intensive care unit and available for stressed parents who wonder if they are up to the task of caring for their unique and fragile baby.”
– Dr. Michael C. Klein CCFP, FAAP (Neonatal-Perinatal) FCFP, ABFP, FCPS, Emeritus Professor Family Practice & Pediatrics, University of British Columbia
