Event Description

The past 20 years have witnessed the development of exciting new ways of treating a number of psychiatric illnesses with the use of neuromodulation or brain stimulation techniques. These novel techniques promise to shed new light on the neurological basis, and revolutionize the treatment of conditions like major depression and schizophrenia. The Douglas Mental Health University Institute invites you to participate on September 30, 2012, to this conference offers you a unique opportunity to be part of a lively discussion with passionate experts in neuromodulation.

Objectives
- To provide clinicians and researchers with a lively debate on the clinical utility and research background of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for major depression and schizophrenia.
- To review the clinical utility of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in psychiatry through a comprehensive review of the literature and an animated discussion among experts.
- To explore the indications and clinical relevance of vagus nerve stimulaton (VNS) and deep
brain stimulation (DBS) for treatment resistant major depression through an interactive case discussion.
