Event Description

This national forum will be an important gathering of health professionals and researchers interested in military and Veteran health research and will attract more than 250 Canadian and international delegates.

This exciting forum will give participants an opportunity to share in the latest research advances in all disciplines associated with the health protection and care of Canada’s serving and released military personnel, aid workers, police, diplomats, and other Canadians exposed to dangerous and hazardous environments in the service of their country. This includes the effects on physical, mental and social health from such service on those who serve and their families over the life course.

The primary objective of the forum is to engage and invigorate support for a Canadian national research agenda that considers military and Veteran health from a life course perspective. The program will provide education and increase awareness of the major implications of military service on the life course. The program will increase awareness of existing research programs that focus on military and Veteran health, and explore new requirements and opportunities for advancing military and Veteran health research.

Specific areas of interest will include battlefield medicine and surgery, infectious diseases, mental health, health surveillance, occupational and operational health, rehabilitation, Veterans’ health, health technologies, collaborative health care teams, ethics, and epidemiology. The forum will provide the opportunity to identify gaps in the current knowledge base of military and Veteran health and stimulate scientific interest in these areas. The program for the event will include high profile national and international speakers dedicated to military and Veteran health. The forum offers the opportunity to meet informally with speakers and delegates in an intellectually stimulating environment.
